Grand Prairie is located in the Dallas, Ellis, and Tarrant Counties of Texas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2000, Grand Prairie is the 17th largest city in Texas with a population estimate of 127,427. The US Census Bureau July 1st, 2006 list of the most populous incorporated places in the United States ranks Grand Prairie as the 148th most populous city in the U.S.

Grand Prairie is included in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. You’ll find Grand Prairie 13 miles west of Dallas, Texas and 9 miles east of Arlington. It’s also not far from Irving. The city is close to the smaller populaces of Duncanville, Cedar Hill, and Euless as well as the even smaller communities of Cockrell Hill, Pantego, and Dalworthington Gardens.

With 43,791 households and 32,317 families residing in the city, population density nears 1,784 people per square mile and there are 46,425 housing units.

The city has a total area of 81.5 square miles, of which, 71.4 square miles of it is land and 10.1 square miles of it is water..

Both the Johnson Creek, a major tributary, and the West Fork of the Trinity River flow through Grand Prairie.
