#FridayFoundationTip

Friday, March 24th, 2017 by Heather Price

Once you begin to notice those small cracks, rest assured if not addressed properly and timely, they will only get larger. You will soon start to notice more extensive problems such as the doors sticking and gaps in the frames and windows.

What causes this?

The #1 culprit in foundation issues are soil changes.  Here in Texas, we experience very hot and dry summers.  During these Texas summers, the soils around your home may begin to dry. Clay soils shrink considerably when they dry, creating a void between the structure and the soil it's relying on to support it. When this happens, your foundation settles as well, causing the hairline cracks in your structure.  One way to avoid this is to make sure your soil stays as wet as possible through regular watering.
